A MODERN TAKE ON THE M1945 FIELD PACK

Soldiers in the US military have been issued bags since before the civil war. Early on, there were Knapsacks. Rugged, single cavity bags made for long movements. The need for more pockets and organization for quick access to smaller essentials like food, water, and weaponry brought us the M1945 during WWII. It was named after the year it was manufactured and issued. These are the bags that inspired us to develop the M23 rucksack, also named after the year it is manufactured and “issued”.

We took what we loved about this pack: the top load, exterior pockets, and front buckles and carried it over to a modern rucksack. We’ve upgraded the M1945, to the GORUCK standard of extra padded shoulder straps and top handle, the highest quality YKK zippers, streamlined closure system, a bombproof laptop compartment, and now more pockets for even more organization. It’s lightweight, low profile for everyday carry, and made from durable materials that you can trust.

The original M1945 pack system consisted of two packs strapped together. When carried together, this was a soldier’s Approach Pack. It accompanied soldiers as they marched towards their target. Once they reached their target, their Approach Packs were split to carry only their smaller essentials like weaponry, hydration, or rations. This was their Assault Bag. It was packed out for a successful attack. Out in the field, your rucksack can serve as your lifeline. Pack it right to be ready for any situation.

Multiple Pockets for Quick Access & Organization

Similar to the M1945 which had external pockets for quick access to weapons & supplies, our M23 Ruck has multiple exterior pockets for quick access to items like water bottles, phones, & wallets.

Flip up the lid of the ruck, throw all of your gear inside, and still have access to everything you need while your ruck is still sitting up right. The front closure system features adjustable Fidlock Buckles.

Get quick access to the main compartment from multiple angles. Open up the lid of the ruck for access from the top, or use the side zipper for quick access even if your ruck is still over your shoulder.

Stand Out Bag

"After owning this bag for over 6 months and traveling internationally with it, weekend trips, and daily to the office, I feel like I can finally review it. This has, hands down, been the nicest bag I have ever used. Is it perfect? No. But it is AMAZING. I wish it stood out more and that I had personally gotten it in a better colorway, but the price dictated what I got. It takes a little bit for it to be broken in. I personally loaded a ton of weight in it and hung it on a chair to break in the padding and straps a little, but that should tell you the quality. The chest strap I have personally detached as I felt it is too stiff and mostly unnecessary even when carrying over 20lbs. It is great because of the expandability as i have used it for 2 person travel over a weekend and when i traeled internationally i carried all my daily necessities and then i also packed spare clothes for my kids just in case luggage was lost. great addition is the Hero clip as it keeps this thing close at hand everywhere we go and is really nice to hang from the passenger seat when you are driving. All in all, great bag, and I hope to see this version make a comeback as I prefer it over the newer M24 variant. I don't need external water bottle pockets, and this holds umbrellas and things easier for myself personally."

GoRuck Rocks it again.

"Solid work. I bought this as a treat to myself, and as a bag to lug all my stuff to work. It's a better option than the actively disentegrating Patagonia cross body bag that I'm using now. That one lasted more than a decade. Here's to hoping this piece will give it a run for its money. Build quality is, as always, exceptional, and it's a beautiful thing to behold. The laptop pocket is a little too small to fit my laptop in it's current bubble case, but if I get something more minimal it'll probably do just fine."

M23 my one bag travel choice to SE Asia

"Good quality, the straps are beefy and comfortable. I will be taking this on my 2 weeks trip to Thailand and Malaysia as a one bag travel. Surprisingly I get get more stuff in this backpack than my other Alpaka Shift V2 35L. Both are top loading but the m23 has a nice feature of being able to get to the main from the side for quick access."
